'Starfish Project': Reading to Make a Difference

Are you interested in making a difference in child's life?
We are partnering with Larchmont Elementary School to help some at-risk kids increase their reading ability. The school offers training for all participants and we will offer support and encourgement to all who are called to serve in this way.

You will spend time teaching literacy skills (alphabet recognition, rhymes, etc), reading to and with the child, and working with them on some basic writing skills.

The time commitment is minimal: one or two 30 minute sessions per week (some time between 8:30 and 11:30 am) at a time of your choosing.

'For Kid's' After School Tutoring Program:

We share a building with For Kids, a non-profit organization that is committed to ending the cycle of poverty among the children of homeless families in Norfolk. We have come to admire this organization greatly and have found several ways of joining with them in their mission to the community. One of those opportunities is to participate in their After School Tutoring program.

Training is provided by ForKids and the commitment is for one afternoon per week during the school year. For more information please contact Anne Reed Harper.
