International Student Ministry
The International Student Ministry has a three-fold mission: to serve those who are foreigners in a foreign land, to extend hands of friendship to students, and to introduce internationals to the love and transformation of Christ through service and friendship. The International Student Ministry is in its baby stage--we need your help, your hands, your ideas!
We feel that our location so close to the ODU campus, home to hundreds of international students, is a God-given gift in our ministry. The day before school started this year, 2009, we hosted a BBQ which was attended by about 20 international students--many of them brand-new to the area, even the country--and that was extremely well-received. Most of the students stayed a long time, chatting with Christ the Redeemer members/attenders, some even staying to help clean up. From spring to summer 2009, we reached out in servant evangelism and friendship to an apartment building filled with internationals by replacing smoke detector batteries, handing out goodie bags for finals week, providing a lavish and delicious lunch during finals week (attended by over 100 students), and hosting a fourth of July picnic visit to HarborFest and watching the fireworks (attended by over 50 students).
The first Saturdays in October, November, and December we will host--along with Global Student Friendship and International Christian Student Fellowship--international student Food, Fun, and Fellowship nights.
We hope to pair students with interested Christ the Redeemer families and individuals for friendship, shopping, holidays, etc. We also plan to work cooperatively with GSF and ICSF more in the future.
